Beijing Daily Client News, on December 8, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun held a regular press conference.
A reporter asked, according to reports, on December 3, regarding the Taiwan-related remarks of Japanese Prime Minister Takahashi Hayato, the deputy head of the Liberal Democratic Party, Asahina Taro, expressed approval of Takahashi's attitude. What is China's comment on this?
Guo Jiakun stated that the remarks of this Japanese politician reflect that Prime Minister Takahashi and the right-wing forces behind her are still misjudging the situation and refusing to repent, ignoring domestic and international criticism, trivializing and distorting the acts of interfering in other countries' internal affairs and threatening other countries with force, and showing no basic respect for international law and the fundamental principles of international relations. They are trying to provoke conflicts and confrontations, break the post-war international order, and revive Japanese militarism. Asian neighboring countries and the international community should remain highly vigilant against this.
Guo Jiakun pointed out that this kind of behavior of provoking China to gain attention and harvest public opinion is despicable and very dangerous. We urge the Japanese side to seriously reflect and repent, and honestly withdraw the fallacious views of Prime Minister Takahashi, and not continue to play with fire or go further down the wrong path.
According to a previous report by Kyodo News, on December 3, Asahina Taro said at a meeting held in Tokyo that Takahashi Hayato's response to the so-called "Taiwan issue" in the National Diet was not problematic.
He also claimed: "Although it has been criticized by China, this is just right. It only elaborated on something that has always been the case. What's wrong with that? Her attitude towards this is very reassuring."
The report also mentioned that Asahina had previously stated in January 2024 that if there were a "Taiwan issue," the Japanese government might consider it as a "life-or-death crisis situation" where collective self-defense rights could be exercised. The recent Taiwan-related remarks of Prime Minister Takahashi Hayato are a continuation of Asahina's previous statements on Sino-Japanese relations.
