Korean Media: The penetration rate of pure electric vehicles in the Japanese market is only 1.6%!

On February 15, the Korean media "Global Economy" published an article stating that according to the information, pure electric vehicles accounted for only 1.6% of total passenger vehicle sales in Japan last year.

Data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association shows that a total of 66,770 pure electric passenger vehicles were sold in Japan last year.

Last year, the total sales of passenger vehicles reached 3,836,380 units. Pure electric vehicles accounted for about 1.6% of the total passenger vehicle sales. The sales of pure electric vehicles remained basically the same as the previous year.

An industry insider said: "The number of pure electric vehicle models in Japan is limited, and the prices are relatively high. The charging infrastructure is also not well developed. These factors together have hindered the widespread adoption of pure electric vehicles."

At the same time, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD and Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki are expected to launch lightweight pure electric vehicles by 2027.

NHK reported that people are paying attention to whether these compact pure electric vehicles will become an opportunity to expand the supply of the Japanese electric vehicle market, and stated that they "are easy to drive even on narrow roads and are also affordable in price."
