Zelenskyy's Visit to Gulf Countries Praises "Historic" Security Cooperation Agreement
During his visit to the Gulf region on Monday, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy praised the "historic" security and air defense cooperation agreement signed between the Gulf countries and Ukraine.
After visiting Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Jordan, President Zelenskyy told media outlets including AFP that the agreement signed between the Gulf nations and Ukraine is a "historic pact on strategic cooperation in the field of military technology."
Zelenskyy emphasized: "Ukraine has never previously signed such an agreement in this region."
He added that under a ten-year agreement, Ukraine plans to open exports of its interceptors, which are capable of destroying Iran-designed Shahed drones.
President Zelenskyy stressed that this involves not just export, but expanding exports—but exports must be conducted under reasonable conditions, as Ukraine will not sell its experience cheaply. He explained that what they offer partners is a truly comprehensive "system"—a defensive system specifically designed against Shahed drones—not merely interceptor bombs.
The Ukrainian president stated that in exchange, Kyiv (which has been resisting Russia’s invasion for four years) seeks means to counter "ballistic missiles," as these are extremely difficult to intercept; it also hopes for support in the "energy sector," as Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is suffering severe damage from Russia’s systematic attacks.
