According to the news on the website of the Chinese Mission to the EU on the 18th, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the EU answered questions from reporters regarding comments made by the President of the European Commission during the G7 Summit.

Question: Recently, the President of the European Commission criticized China during the G7 Summit, accusing China of ignoring global trade rules and providing substantial subsidies to support domestic enterprises. It was also stated that China has weaponized its dominance in rare earths and transferred excess production capacity to the global market. The G7 must diversify critical supply chains, especially raw materials, and jointly address non-market policies and behaviors. What are China's comments on this?

Answer: We have noticed relevant reports, and we express strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to these remarks which ignore facts, are full of prejudice, and adopt double standards. China's industrial subsidy policies adhere to principles of openness, fairness, and compliance, strictly complying with World Trade Organization rules. China's industrial development relies on continuous technological innovation, a well-rounded production and supply chain system, sufficient market competition, abundant human resources, and hard work—not subsidies. China's new energy capacity has made significant contributions to global climate change response and energy transition.

The so-called "overcapacity" is essentially related to certain countries' concerns about their own competitiveness and market share, using this as an excuse to implement protectionist measures. What is excessive is anxiety, not capacity. In recent years, the EU has continuously introduced industrial policies, providing substantial subsidies to support European enterprises, and even publicly proposed prioritizing purchases of European products. According to incomplete statistics, between 2021 and 2030, the EU will provide more than 1.44 trillion euros in various types of subsidies. By 2024, over 300 billion euros have already been disbursed. The EU has also introduced a series of economic and trade "toolboxes." Currently, the EU is focusing on promoting economic growth and enhancing competitiveness, requiring the abandonment of double standards and embracing more openness and cooperation.

In the 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-EU cooperation has yielded rich results, bringing tangible benefits to both sides. China persists in high-level opening-up, continuing to offer broad markets and development opportunities for European enterprises. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the EU, properly handle trade disputes, and achieve mutual benefit and common development. At the same time, we firmly oppose any attempt to damage China's development rights or even sacrifice Chinese interests to gain benefits for oneself.
