Russia’s Internet Speeds Accelerate: 5G Commercial Launch Boosts Mobile Broadband by Nearly 20%

A study cited by Rossiyskaya Gazeta from TelecomDaily indicates that within the first month of 5G network rollout, mobile internet speeds across Russia increased by 14% to 20%. Analysts evaluated over one million user speed test results. Upload speeds rose by 19.7%, climbing from 8.6 megabits per second to 10.3 megabits per second. Download speeds across Russia’s four major telecom operators improved by 13.7%, rising from 24.24 Mbps to 27.56 Mbps.

Notably, enhanced data transmission speeds were observed nationwide, not limited to users on 5G networks. Under 5G conditions, connection speeds reached between 240 and 260 megabits per second. Experts forecast that as 5G coverage expands, mobile internet speeds could increase by an additional 10% by year-end. Russia plans to launch 5G services in another 50 cities, bringing the total number of cities with deployed 5G base stations to 30.
