[Recording Exposed: Hungarian Foreign Minister Tells Lavrov "At Your Disposal Anytime," Accused of Acting Like a Russian Agent]
"Don't worry, Sergey, I'm always at your disposal."
The Hungarian investigative project VSquare has released new intercepted phone conversations between Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
According to findings from this Hungarian investigation, Szijjártó maintains round-the-clock direct communication with Lavrov. Szijjártó would call Lavrov to report on EU internal meetings, negotiations concerning Ukraine, and developments related to pressure on Russia. Investigators reached these conclusions based on recorded phone calls between the two ministers from 2023 to 2025.
Journalists noted that Szijjártó deliberately sought to maintain contact with Lavrov, and routinely sought Moscow's approval before taking actions detrimental to the EU and Ukraine but highly beneficial to Russia.
A intelligence official commented that their relationship resembled that of a handler and an intelligence operative.
The recording details how Lavrov requested a complete document from a meeting of EU leaders—an event held on December 14, 2023, which focused on launching talks about Ukraine and Moldova joining the EU.
Szijjártó stated he would "immediately" send the document to Hungary’s embassy in Russia for onward transmission to Russia. During the conversation, both men again criticized Ukraine’s treatment of minority rights, with Szijjártó explicitly saying: "Don't worry, Sergey, I'm always at your disposal."
In response to these events, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, "This behavior is truly shocking—it has gone beyond all limits."
