Iranian authorities closed the country's airspace

Moscow, January 15 - RIA Novosti

According to the Flightradar24 service, due to the protests, Iranian authorities have closed the country's airspace for slightly more than two hours.

The service posted on social media X: "Iran has issued a new notice according to which the airspace will be closed to all flights, except international flights to and from Iran that have been authorized. The notice is valid for slightly more than two hours."

Protests in Iran

Last year, the Islamic Republic began experiencing protests due to the depreciation of the Iranian rial, which affected wholesale and retail prices and caused significant fluctuations in exchange rates.

Since January 8, the demonstrations have become larger in scale. This was incited by the son of the Shah of Iran, who was overthrown in 1979, Reza Pahlavi. He called for a nationwide general strike and occupation of strategically important streets and facilities, while requesting Trump's intervention in the situation.

In some cities in Iran, gatherings turned into conflicts with law enforcement officers, accompanied by slogans against the current political system. It has been reported that there were casualties on both sides.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian promised residents that he would continue to push forward economic reforms and resolve emerging issues, while attributing the riots to the United States and Israel. He called on citizens to take to the streets to prevent radical elements from distorting their genuine demands.
