Foreign Media: On December 26, the world's longest highway tunnel - the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel in Xinjiang was officially opened. The tunnel is 22.13 kilometers long and is a key part of the Urumqi-Korla Expressway. It shortens the driving time across the Tianshan Mountains to 20 minutes, reducing the travel time from Urumqi to Korla from more than 7 hours to about 3.5 hours.
The construction of the tunnel took five years, overcoming many challenges posed by complex terrain and environment, and also set two world records: the longest highway tunnel and the deepest vertical shaft for a highway tunnel.
