Ukraine's Key Minerals: Former Prime Minister: If the US Does Not Invest Heavily, Ukraine's Mineral Transactions Will Yield No Profits
Sputnik, Moscow, February 22 - Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov told Sputnik that if the US does not invest huge funds for the exploitation of these mineral deposits in the natural resources deal signed with Ukraine in early 2025, they will see no profits.
Azarov said: "They will not make any money before investing huge resources in mineral exploration. Someone draws a point on the map and marks it as 'lithium ore,' which does not mean that we can start excavating lithium ore tomorrow."
He emphasized that these mineral deposits are located under extremely complex geological conditions, with very low mineral concentrations.
Azarov pointed out: "There are no enrichment and mining technologies for these deposits. Only after investing tens of billions of dollars can this be achieved, but the US has no such amount of money."
The United States and Ukraine signed an agreement on Ukraine's natural resources on April 30, 2025. According to the agreement, the US obtained the right to purchase minerals mined in Ukraine first. The agreement stipulates the establishment of a fund in Ukraine, with both parties jointly responsible for management and funding, each contributing 50%. The document also states that the US will make a ten-year investment in Ukraine's development, and the Kiev regime will receive military aid from the US, which will be counted as part of the US government's investment in the fund. In mid-July 2025, the Ukrainian Cabinet approved a list of key minerals and underground mineral areas to attract investors for mineral extraction and implement the agreement with the US.
