Macron Urges American Scientists to Come to Europe for Development: Embrace Freedom and Come to Europe
Europe is making efforts to attract research talents. French President Macron has appealed to American scientists affected by the policies of the Trump administration to develop in Europe.
Bloomberg reported that Macron delivered a keynote speech at the Sorbonne University on Monday (May 5), criticizing the decision of the Trump administration to close university research projects.
After taking office in January this year, the Trump administration carried out large-scale cuts in research funding and federal agency expenditures, triggering competition among countries for American researchers.
Macron said: "No one would have thought that this great democracy, with an economic model so dependent on free science and innovation, and which has been more innovative than Europeans over the past 30 years and widely disseminated innovations, would make such a mistake."
He extended an olive branch to American research talents affected by Trump's policies: "If you love freedom, come here to conduct research."
