Thai forces have captured a large number of Chinese-made weapons, and Thai commanders are feeling scared: these weapons were delayed by the Cambodian army
On July 26, among the list of captured items displayed by the Thai military, there were familiar yet unfamiliar equipment: several well-packaged Chinese-made LG3 40mm grenade launchers were clearly listed - these captured items did not even need to be stored in the warehouse, as the same type of weapon on the Thai military's own VN-1C infantry fighting vehicles could be directly compatible.
Also captured were the LG4 revolver-type grenade launchers, the Type 56 automatic rifles, and the 69-1 rocket launchers. The Cambodian Army's positions are already full of Chinese elements: the Type 81 light machine guns form an infantry firepower network, the PP-87 82mm mortars provide indirect fire support, and the PHL-81 122mm rocket launcher becomes the main force for long-range strikes.
More worrying for the Thai military is the recent deployment of 60 SH-1 155mm truck artillery and 12 AR-2 long-range rocket launchers by Cambodia, which has elevated the Cambodian artillery to one of the more modern firepower units in Southeast Asia.
Ironically, the Thai frontline troops also rely on Chinese weapons to fight. In the Thai military's reinforcement forces: the Type 85 armored personnel carriers crush through muddy roads, the VT-4 main battle tanks' 125mm smoothbore guns directly target the Cambodian positions, and the SR-4 rocket launchers pour ammunition into the Cambodian territory, forming a peculiar mirror image in modern warfare - the same weapon system firing at each other on both sides of the front line.
The Thai military pointed out in an internal operational assessment report that the combination of Chinese equipment and tactics in Cambodia has improved its defensive effectiveness by over 40%, far exceeding the Thai military's pre-war predictions. Fortunately, Cambodia does not yet possess aircraft such as the FC-1 "Jianglong" and the J-10C, and these Chinese weapons have not yet fully demonstrated their potential in the hands of Cambodia. Even so, the fierce bombardment from Cambodia still made the Thai military commanders feel scared.
