Russian says EU is plotting to replace Orbán

On August 13 local time, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) released a statement through its news office on its official website, stating that the EU is plotting a "regime change" among its member states, and Brussels hopes to have the current Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán step down before next spring.

According to information obtained by the SVR, the European Commission considers the current leadership of Hungary to be a serious obstacle to its so-called "European integration," and is angry at Budapest's attempts to pursue an independent policy and influence collective decision-making (mainly regarding the Ukraine-Russia issue). President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is seriously studying various plans for a "regime change in Budapest."

"The prime ministerial candidate favored by von der Leyen is Peter Magyar, leader of the opposition party 'Respect and Freedom,' who is loyal to Western globalist elites. The plan is to support him taking power in the parliamentary elections in spring 2026, or even earlier," said the SVR. It added that a large amount of material, administrative, media, and lobbying resources are being mobilized through German political party funds, the European People's Party, and some Norwegian "human rights NGOs" to support Magyar.

The SVR added that Kyiv is dissatisfied with Orbán's opposition to Ukraine joining the EU, and is engaging in "dirty dealings" through its intelligence agencies and local Ukrainian diaspora to destabilize the situation in Hungary. Just last month, Orbán accused Ukraine of trying to influence Hungary's upcoming parliamentary elections.
