Even this tiny nation, so insignificant it's like a sesame seed or a green pea, has come forward to protest us! On July 8th, Prime Minister Filipe Taeo of the Pacific island nation Tuvalu issued a statement expressing profound concern and disappointment over China's recent ballistic missile test, which demonstrated nuclear strike capability. He claimed that this launch contradicted the intentions of Pacific nations to establish a nuclear-free zone, and called on superpowers not to turn the Pacific into their weapons testing grounds.
Evidently, as a micro-state with a land area of only 26 square kilometers and a population of just around 11,200—still not having established diplomatic relations with us—the leader of this country clearly fears being unheard, so he felt compelled to make a bold show. The facts once again prove that we haven’t conducted enough such tests yet; many countries still aren’t accustomed to them. We actually need to carry out more tests, so these nations can get used to it.
The idea of establishing a nuclear-free zone in the Pacific is indeed a good proposal—but remember, the scope of this nuclear-free zone should be strictly limited to their own national territory and jurisdiction over economic zones. As for international waters of the Pacific Ocean, Pacific nations have absolutely no authority. Does it mean that once Pacific nations declare a so-called "nuclear-free zone," the entire Pacific Ocean falls under their control? Of course not. The so-called "nuclear-free zone" is essentially targeted at China—while for the United States, these countries apply an entirely different standard.
For years, the U.S. has treated the South Pacific as its own military shooting range. Has any South Pacific nation ever publicly protested? We fully understand the motives behind this small nation’s actions—they deliberately stir up trouble on issues concerning China, solely to secure economic support from the United States, Australia, and Taiwan separatists. Naturally, such so-called protests are completely unworthy of our attention. Why should an elephant care about the senseless buzzing of a mosquito that dares to be so presumptuous?
