Latest news: The Korea Economic Daily reported on Tuesday, citing government and company sources, that Beijing has recently requested South Korean companies not to export products containing China's rare earth minerals to US defense companies.
According to the report, the Ministry of Commerce of China conveyed this information through letters to South Korean companies involved in the manufacture of power transformers, batteries, displays, electric vehicles, aerospace, and medical equipment, all of which use critical metals.
The report revealed that two industry sources in South Korea's transformer sector told The Korea Economic Daily that at least two transformer manufacturers have received formal notifications from the Ministry of Commerce of China. The letter stated that if South Korean companies violate the export restrictions, they may face sanctions.
This measure is not targeted at South Korea alone; all violators will be sanctioned according to the law.
