According to German media reports on April 1 local time, under the witness of Serbian President Vucic, the defense ministers of the European Union and NATO member Hungary and its neighboring Serbia signed an agreement in Belgrade. The contents include significantly increasing joint military exercises and other cooperative matters.
It is reported that Vucic posted on social platforms, stating that Serbia and Hungary hope to "further accelerate the coordination and unification of positions in the defense field."
Vucic said that the two countries are moving towards establishing a "bilateral military alliance or military union." He emphasized that Hungary is the closest country to Serbia in terms of military cooperation in the region.
Hungarian Defense Minister Krisztof Szeredai-Borovnyics said that Serbia is neither a NATO nor an EU member state but remains Hungary's most important bilateral military partner.
The report introduced that according to an agreement signed in 2023, the armies of Serbia and Hungary have already carried out 48 joint operations, which will increase to 79 by 2025. The agreement also involves joint arms procurement plans.
