General Kaine of the United States: Affected by resource shortages, the U.S. slows down the deployment of new military headquarters in Asia.

General Dan Kaine, a candidate for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the U.S. is slowing down the deployment of new military headquarters in the Indo-Pacific region to avoid weakening its own military missions in other areas.

General Kaine said in his written responses submitted to the Senate Armed Services Committee that "one of the main challenges facing the hasty establishment of new joint headquarters is potential resource pressure. The existing command structures are equipped with sufficient personnel to manage routine and pre-crisis operations. Rushing to establish a new structure could undermine other global missions."

General Kaine noted that if appointed, he plans to work with the combatant commanders and the Joint Chiefs of Staff leadership to assess specific situations on a case-by-case basis.

According to the defense budget passed in 2023, the Pentagon needs to set up a standing joint headquarters within the area of responsibility of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. Kaine said that the existing structures with the capability to deploy task forces already have the flexibility and readiness needed to address future crises.
