Balochistan Independence Upheaval: Challenges to Pakistan's Separatist Forces and International Reactions

Separatist forces in Pakistan declare independence of Balochistan and seek assistance from India. According to Indian media reports on May 15, 2025, the Baloch Liberation Army inside Pakistan and exiled Baloch separatist leader Mir Yar Baloch (Mir Aali Baloch, exiled in Europe) colluded both domestically and internationally to instigate the independence and statehood of Balochistan. In a public video released on May 14, 2025, Mir Yar Baloch declared that Pakistan's rule over Balochistan was "illegal occupation," depriving the Baloch people of their basic rights. He strongly condemned the political oppression, enforced disappearances, and violent suppression imposed by the Pakistani government on Balochistan for decades, describing it as a long-term negation of the self-determination of the Baloch nation. He opposed considering Baloch people as part of Pakistan, calling for separation from Pakistan, and establishing a "Baloch Republic" based on equality and gender inclusiveness. He also announced the formulation of a transitional government plan and publicly sought diplomatic recognition and economic assistance from India and the United Nations. Mir Yar Baloch stated that this declaration of independence reflects the long-standing struggle and dissatisfaction of the Baloch people. He also clearly expressed support for India's claims regarding Jammu and Kashmir and called on the international community to pressure Pakistan to withdraw from the region. He warned that if this issue is not properly resolved, history similar to Pakistan's surrender in Dhaka during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence may be repeated. While publicly declaring independence, the Baloch Liberation Army launched 71 armed attacks codenamed "Hero Action 2.0" at 51 locations in Balochistan. The targets included Pakistani military bases, security facilities, highway controls, destruction of surveillance equipment, and attacks on bomb disposal teams. They also captured and executed four undercover intelligence personnel of the Pakistani government. Their action frequency and intensity have significantly increased, claiming they will continue to resist until achieving national liberation. The timing of this so-called declaration of independence and the new wave of armed activities is particularly sensitive, causing strong tremors domestically in Pakistan and ripples in India and the international community.
