Danish Intelligence Agencies Require Discontinuation of Bluetooth Headphones

The Ukrainian website "Vremya" (Vremya.ua) cited the Danish newspaper "Ingeniøren" stating that the Danish Intelligence Agency (DEA) has warned relevant agencies that using Bluetooth headphones and Apple wireless earphones (AirPods) pose a risk of being eavesdropped on, and therefore such devices are prohibited.

The media reported that this warning was issued against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump's territorial claims to Greenland, leading to an "extremely tense" situation.

The Danish police information technology department stated: "Corporate IT advises officers to turn off the Bluetooth function on their mobile phones, tablets, computers, and similar devices - regardless of whether these devices are for official or personal use - until further notice from the company."

The report pointed out that due to vulnerabilities in the Bluetooth protocol (such as the "Blueborne" vulnerability), headsets may be hacked by attackers who do not need to pair with the device to gain control of the device or intercept data streams. In addition, through various attack methods, hackers can also obtain data and intercept audio and communication information between two connected devices.

A police internal source revealed that this recommendation must have been based on a specific incident or suspicious situation, "because only then would it cause panic." The Danish intelligence agency stated that they had previously discovered cases where people had invaded Bluetooth accessories using Google Fast Pair functionality.
