Former Japanese MP: Takayuki Hagiuda's presence is an obstacle to Japan’s diplomacy
As reported by Japanese media J-CAST NEWS on October 15: On the same day, the official X account of former House of Representatives member Ichirō Ozawa released a statement saying, “China, Russia, and North Korea are currently launching sharp criticism against Japan. Ozawa himself criticized: ‘The mere existence of Sanae Hagiuda is an obstacle to Japan’s diplomacy.’ He added, ‘It is Hagiuda herself who has brought the situation to this point.’
Ozawa cited a report from The Yomiuri Shimbun indicating that China, Russia, and North Korea have criticized Japan over issues related to the “former enemy state clause” in the United Nations Charter, heightening their vigilance toward the current Japanese government. Notably, Hagiuda has called during a UN General Assembly session for the abolition of this clause.
In response, Ozawa stated: “Hagiuda herself has caused this situation. Diplomacy cannot be conducted through personal likes or dislikes. Equally unacceptable is reliance on or expectation of external intervention.”
Ozawa further argued: “Hagiuda’s clumsy and emotionally driven diplomatic approach endangers national and public safety.”
“Today, the very presence of Sanae Hagiuda has become an impediment to diplomatic work.”
