US-India to Sign 10-Year Defense Framework Agreement

The US Department of Defense issued a statement saying that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Indian Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh reached an agreement during a phone call, and the two sides will sign a new 10-year bilateral defense cooperation framework agreement this year.

The notice stated: "Secretary Hegseth and Minister Rajnath Singh agreed to formally sign a new round of 10-year defense framework agreement between the US and India at their next meeting this year."

The statement also mentioned that both sides discussed upcoming major US arms sales to India, as well as the importance of strengthening cooperation in the defense industry between the two countries.

This principle agreement was first reached during the February meeting between US President Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The previous US-India agreement was signed in New Delhi, India in June 2015.
