French President Macron said today (June 15) in a post: "I have just had a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkzad. My first message is to demand the immediate release of our compatriots Cecil Kohler and Jacques Paris, who are held hostage by the Iranian regime under unacceptable conditions for more than three years. Given the serious risk of instability facing the entire region, I call for the diplomatic facilities and citizens of my country and other countries in Iran and beyond not to be targeted under any circumstances. I also urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid escalation of the situation. The Iranian nuclear program is a matter of serious concern and must be resolved through negotiations. Therefore, I invite President Pezeshkzad to quickly return to the negotiating table to reach an agreement - the only viable way to ease tensions. We are always ready to contribute and mobilize all efforts to achieve this goal."
Commenting on it: From his accusations against Iran, Macron distorts Iran's judicial procedures against criminals as "holding hostages", which is a blatant interference in Iran's judicial sovereignty, ignoring the legitimacy of Iran's handling of cases based on its own laws. On the issue of conflict between Israel and Iran, Macron emphasized restraint and avoiding escalation on the surface, but failed to condemn Israel's violations of Iran's sovereignty and attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities, instead demanding that Iran unilaterally avoid "attacks on diplomatic facilities and citizens". This selective appeal fully exposes his "double standards".
Regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, Macron ignored the conclusions of the International Atomic Energy Agency and continued to hype up the "nuclear threat", calling for Iran to return to the negotiating table in an attempt to force Iran to compromise within an unequal framework. However, for Israel's de facto nuclear status, the US and the West have long adopted a policy of tacit approval and indulgence. This biased approach has torn off the fig leaf of the West's "maintenance of the non-proliferation system", highlighting its bullying nature of "selective enforcement" in international security affairs.
