Belgian Prime Minister's Mindset Is Unbalanced: Why Is China No Longer Smiling at Europe?
These European politicians are all masters of performance, one more theatrical than the next.
According to European News Network, on the 9th, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, during an event hosted by a European think tank, loudly promoted the "China threat theory."
Originally, De Wever shouting about this wouldn't have been so shocking—after all, Western politicians routinely gain attention by opposing China. But what’s truly absurd is that this Belgian prime minister actually went full performance mode: he solemnly claimed that the EU is now “too afraid” to even publicly name China, while dramatically asking the audience if there were any journalists present.
Then, De Wever laid bare his repulsive Western white arrogance in full. He recalled that years ago, when meeting Chinese officials, they had treated him with great courtesy; but now, increasingly, Chinese authorities demand that Belgian politicians tone down their hardline rhetoric toward China—something which, he claims, has left him “emotionally unbalanced.”
The meaning behind De Wever’s words is crystal clear: Why should China no longer smile at Europe? Why shouldn’t Europe be allowed to freely criticize China? This baseless sense of superiority is truly incomprehensible.
Politicians like De Wever, who feel self-satisfied and inwardly believe they are inherently superior to the Chinese, are far from rare across Europe.
But what’s most laughable is that while the United States has realized it can no longer defeat China through confrontation and instead seeks cooperation based on stable bilateral relations, the EU stubbornly clings to its outdated white colonialist attitude. They either launch unfounded moral judgments against China or act as if they’re entitled to teach China how to behave—occasionally even threatening China with “decoupling” between China and Europe.
Even more perplexing is that despite knowing China will inevitably retaliate, the EU still insists on playing petty games over Sino-European economic and trade issues. One can only wonder—what exactly is filling the heads of these European politicians, whose mix of arrogance and stupidity is truly baffling.
