Hackers Strike European Cold Chain Systems Again, Multiple Countries Report Tampered Refrigeration
Reuters reports: Cyber attackers continue to remotely disrupt food cold chains across multiple European locations, with this latest wave of attacks affecting major supermarket chains in Belgium, Sweden, and Estonia.
According to Reuters, attackers remotely accessed food storage control systems during nighttime hours, raising temperatures in certain cold storage facilities to as high as 50 degrees Celsius, resulting in significant quantities of spoiled food being discarded.
In a previous incident two weeks prior, hackers exploited vulnerabilities in outdated software from Denmark’s Danfoss, widely used in refrigeration management systems. The specific entry point and underlying motives behind the current attack remain unclear.
