Federal Judge Orders the U.S. Government to Pay Full Food Assistance Benefits for November!
U.S. Federal Judge John Michael McConnell stated in a hearing held on Thursday that the U.S. government must fully cover the food stamp benefits for 42 million Americans in November.
"People have gone without too long, and not paying them for even one day is completely unacceptable."
McConnell said the government had not swiftly distributed the funds as ordered earlier, and that the government's decision this week to not provide full benefits for the month was arbitrary and capricious.
According to McConnell's new ruling, the U.S. government must use the billions of dollars in additional funds held by the Department of Agriculture to pay for all SNAP benefits, which need to be paid to the states managing the program by Friday.
"Without emergency funding for November, 16 million children would immediately face the risk of hunger, which should never happen in America, and in fact, millions of people may have already been hungry while we are sitting here."
