Philippine Supreme Court Reiterates that the Impeachment Ruling Against Vice President Sara Must Be Immediately Implemented!
The Philippine Supreme Court reiterated that its decision to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte must be immediately implemented, despite some petitions seeking to challenge the ruling.
In a press release issued after the full court session on Tuesday, August 5, the Supreme Court ordered Duterte and her lawyer Torion to respond to the motion for reconsideration submitted by the House of Representatives on August 4.
Sara Duterte and Torion had previously filed a petition challenging the impeachment complaint against the vice president. The Supreme Court ultimately dismissed the House's impeachment of Sara for violating the constitutional "once per year" rule regarding impeachment complaints.
"Recall that on July 25, 2025, the Supreme Court approved the request to dismiss the fourth impeachment petition against Vice President Duterte. The Supreme Court stated that all the justices present voted unanimously to rule that the impeachment charges were invalid due to violation of the one-year rule and due process requirements, and this decision is immediately enforceable!"
Regarding the intervention motion and motion for reconsideration filed by Representative Cendaa on July 25, the Supreme Court clearly stated that no further action would be taken.
