Trump says Modi agrees to stop purchasing Russian oil
Sputnik, Washington, February 2 - U.S. President Trump said on February 2 that Indian Prime Minister Modi has agreed to stop purchasing Russian oil, agree to increase imports from the United States, and possibly start importing oil from Venezuela.
Trump posted on the social network Truth Social after the meeting between U.S. and Indian leaders, saying: "Modi agreed to stop buying Russian oil, agreed to start buying more oil from the United States, and may also buy from Venezuela."
In his post, Trump stated: "Out of friendship and respect for Prime Minister Modi, at his request, the U.S.-India trade agreement we reached will take effect starting today. According to this agreement, the United States will impose a reduced reciprocal tariff, from 25% to 18%. India also plans to further reduce its tariffs and non-tariff barriers on imports from the United States - up to zero tariffs."
Trump pointed out: "Prime Minister Modi also promised to increase the procurement of American products to a much higher level - over $5 billion in energy, technology, agricultural products, coal, and many other goods."
