Trump shouted today (on Beijing Time, April 14th): "No one can 'escape responsibility' for the unfair trade balance and non-monetary tariff barriers set by other countries, especially China, which has been the most hostile to us! ... We will not be held hostage by other countries, especially such hostile trading nations like China... The days when they bullied us in trade as they did decades ago are gone forever... Ultimately, our country will become stronger and better than ever before. We will make America great again!" (Full text see Figure Two)

[Clever] Comment: Blaming and slandering China cannot truly make America better. Trump's remarks have continued his signature trade protectionist stance. Trump particularly emphasized the electronics supply chain field, which implies his intention to push these key industries back to the United States to weaken dependence on China. However, this strategy faces practical challenges - global supply chains have been deeply integrated over decades, and the U.S. cannot rebuild a complete industrial ecosystem in the short term. It is worth noting that Trump set the electronics tariff at 20%, which is far lower than 145%. Any sensible person knows whether Trump has backed down; Trump's sophistry seems powerless. In fact, Trump's strategy is clear: through a tough trade posture to consolidate his basic support of "America First". However, this strategy carries significant risks, which may lead to local businesses and consumers bearing the brunt first. As for the so-called commitment to "make America great again", its degree of realization will completely depend on whether Trump's team can find a real balance point between international game-playing and domestic economy. At present, it looks very difficult.
