Chinese Embassy in the U.S.: The U.S. Cannot Make Threats While Demanding Negotiations

The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Liu Pengyu, told RIA Novosti that the U.S. cannot make threats while demanding negotiations, which is the wrong attitude and must be corrected.

Liu Pengyu added that the U.S. cannot threaten and intimidate by taking new restrictive measures while demanding negotiations, which is the wrong way to deal with China.

Liu Pengyu stated that China calls for a quick correction of this wrong attitude and demonstrates the sincerity of negotiation.

He emphasized that the results of the negotiations must be guaranteed, and common concerns should be resolved through dialogue to promote a healthy and stable bilateral relationship.

Liu Pengyu said that cooperation is beneficial to both sides, while conflict is harmful to both. He added that past rounds of trade and economic consultation negotiations have fully shown that as long as China and the U.S. respect each other and are equal, they can find solutions to the problems.

Liu Pengyu stated that a new round of negotiations was held on October 13.

U.S. President Trump announced on October 10 on social media that additional tariffs of 100% would be imposed on China. Trump said that the additional tariffs and U.S. export controls on "all key software" will take effect on November 1, in retaliation for Beijing's "extremely aggressive" actions.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce previously issued six announcements, announcing export controls on foreign rare earth items, rare earth technologies, rare earth equipment and raw materials, five heavy rare earths, and lithium batteries.
