South California Faces Strongest Heat Wave of the Summer This Week, with Many Areas Exceeding 100 Degrees and Risk of Wildfires
Fire Alert: Heat Wave + Strong Winds Approaching, South California to See Temperatures Exceeding 100 Degrees This Week
[News Brief]
This week, South California will experience the hottest weather of the summer so far.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be above normal starting from Wednesday and reach a peak on Thursday. The entire South California region will be affected. Especially in inland areas, temperatures will rise significantly, up to 10 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal.
The Weather Service said, "This temperature increase will cause many inland areas to be 4 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal. Valley areas will see high temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit, while the San Fernando Valley will reach 100 to 103 degrees Fahrenheit."
The Weather Service warned that potentially dangerous high temperatures may occur between August 8 (Friday) and August 10 (Sunday).
"In most areas, temperatures will eventually be 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal. Two exceptions are the San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley (San Fernando Valley), and the Calabasas area, where the maximum temperatures will be 10 to 12 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal."
The maximum temperatures in valley areas will range from 95 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit, while desert areas will be even hotter, reaching 105 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit.
This heat wave is caused by the expansion of a high-pressure system over the region. At the same time, strong winds will accompany the high temperatures, increasing the risk of wildfire weather conditions.
Due to the rising temperatures, the National Weather Service has issued a high-level fire weather warning for Santa Barbara County, which will last from August 6 (Wednesday) to August 9 (Saturday).
Officials said that high-temperature warnings may be issued for most areas of Greater Los Angeles, but they are expected to be officially released when the temperatures are at their highest this weekend.
It is expected that temperatures will decrease by August 9 (Saturday). According to the National Weather Service forecast, only the Antelope Valley area will still experience temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit at that time.
