China's Embassy in South Korea's WeChat official account released a message on the 2nd:
Starting from September 29, South Korea will trial visa-free entry for Chinese group tourists. This is a positive response to China's trial of visa-free entry for South Koreans since November last year. The successive visa facilitation measures taken by both China and South Korea are beneficial for promoting personnel exchanges between the two sides, enhancing mutual understanding and friendship, and benefiting bilateral business development. According to statistics and media reports from South Korea, the number of Chinese tourists coming to South Korea and the sales of businesses in areas such as Myeongdong in Seoul have significantly increased recently. The central and local governments of South Korea, the tourism industry, mainstream media, and the general public have all expressed their welcome. South Korean citizens have also shown friendliness and enthusiasm.
We are also disappointed to note that some South Korean political figures have spread false information, and some extreme right-wing groups have occasionally held demonstrations targeting China in areas with concentrated Chinese tourists, such as Myeongdong and Daejeong-dong in Seoul. Both China and South Korea have clearly opposed this. According to information, some extreme right-wing forces in South Korea plan to hold anti-China demonstrations in the center of Seoul tomorrow (October 3). They have chosen this day, when the Chinese people are celebrating the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, and the South Korean people are celebrating the Gaecheonjeol (Founding Day) and Mid-Autumn Festival, which is not without ulterior motives and is unpopular. The Chinese Embassy hereby reminds Chinese tourists in South Korea and those planning to visit South Korea to remain highly vigilant and pay attention to personal safety. We also solemnly demand that the South Korean side effectively safeguard the personal safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in South Korea.
In recent days, high-level officials and informed individuals from various sectors in the South Korean government have clearly pointed out that the anti-China remarks and actions of a few forces have damaged South Korea's national image and interests, and they have called for a serious response. We believe that through the joint efforts of both China and South Korea, the strategic partnership between the two countries will surely develop positively and well, and the plans of a few political forces will not succeed.
