It's really tough, and China strikes back again! After waiting for 24 hours, the U.S. didn't receive our call but instead faced our countermeasures! On April 11th, we made another countermeasure decision. We stated that on April 10th, the U.S. government announced that the tariff rate on Chinese goods exported to the U.S. would be further increased to 125%. The U.S. imposing such disproportionately high tariffs seriously violates international trade and economic rules, defies basic economic principles and common sense, and is purely a unilateral hegemonic coercive approach.
In light of this, we will also raise the retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. to 125%. After we took this countermeasure, the U.S. can give up its hope. That is, if the U.S. wants to engage in a trade war with us, we will not yield an inch. The U.S. can fight as long as it likes, and we will see it through until the U.S. is willing to return to the negotiation table with an equal and respectful attitude. To be honest, we are somewhat surprised by our own countermeasure once again.
After the tariff has been increased to 104%, continuing to increase the tariff does not make much sense. However, why do we continue to increase it? It's undoubtedly to clearly tell the U.S. that the first principle of dealing with China and the U.S. is equality. Both sides must deal with each other equally. We believe that after such a countermeasure, the U.S. should fully realize this point. Moreover, this countermeasure might make the U.S. feel uneasy. Why do we say so? Trump just told other countries that if no agreement is reached, high "reciprocal" tariffs will be restored. Now that we are taking the lead in counterattacking, other countries will feel more confident when negotiating with the U.S.
Moreover, we will inevitably have a series of diplomatic actions in these 90 days. What's already on the agenda is our visit to three Southeast Asian countries. If the talks fail within 90 days, will Trump dare to escalate the trade war against other countries? If escalated, the ultimate isolation will be the U.S., so we ask, does the U.S. fear this? Furthermore, we said something very interesting, which is that if the U.S. continues to impose additional taxes, we will not respond. In short, if the U.S. continues to impose additional taxes, please go ahead; we won't lose our heads like the U.S. Undoubtedly, the U.S. is now in a difficult situation.
