European aerospace company Airbus has decided to move its critical digital systems out of Google's cloud services. Company executives said this decision was due to concerns about security and data sovereignty related to U.S. jurisdiction over sensitive industrial information.
This decision was made against the backdrop of Google facing a U.S. class-action lawsuit over privacy violations, involving its AI assistant Gemini. According to Bloomberg, the lawsuit claims that the tool secretly activated Gmail, Chat, and Meet in October, granting Google access to emails, attachments, and video calls without user consent. Google denied these allegations.
"I need a digitally independent cloud because some information is very sensitive from a national and European perspective," said Catherine Jestin, Executive Vice President and head of the digital division at Airbus. "We want to ensure that this information remains under European control."
