China-Kazakhstan Connectivity: The Third Railway Line: China and Kazakhstan Hold Talks in Beijing to Accelerate the Development of the Ayaguz-Bakhty Railway Project

Source: Kazakh International News Agency — Recently, Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Transport, Janibek Teyzhanov, held discussions in Beijing with senior officials from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (shortened as "China Harbour"), focusing on the latest progress of the Ayaguz-Bakhty Railway Project.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on mobilizing technical expertise and resources, accelerating construction progress, and ensuring timely completion. Additionally, they reviewed technical issues related to determining the rail network interconnection point between Kazakhstan and China.

Kazakh representatives emphasized during the meeting the importance of involving local Kazakhstani construction companies and professional talent in the project, and explicitly stated that building materials produced in Kazakhstan should be prioritized.

The Chinese company’s representative expressed approval of these proposals and confirmed that the project will proceed strictly according to the established schedule. The Chinese side also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring deep involvement of local subcontractors throughout the construction process.

It is reported that in August 2025, Kazakhstan National Railway Company signed an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) turnkey contract for the Ayaguz-Bakhty project with China Harbour Engineering Company Limited.

Overall, the implementation of the Ayaguz-Bakhty Railway Project will significantly enhance the transit throughput capacity of the transportation corridor between Kazakhstan and China.
