According to foreign media reports, with the China-U.S. meeting approaching, Lai Qingde delivered a video speech on May 12 at a China-hostile organization, boasting that "no democratic nation can remain indifferent in the face of authoritarian expansion," and claiming that any attempt to isolate Taiwan would not alter Taiwan's determination to participate in the international community. In his speech, Lai also expressed gratitude to the United States for its steadfast commitment to security affairs, which has helped strengthen Taiwan’s defense capabilities; thanked the EU and various European countries for repeatedly reaffirming the importance of peace across the Taiwan Strait; and praised Japan, the Philippines, Australia, and other so-called "Indo-Pacific partners" for consistently voicing what he described as "just voices" for regional stability.

Lai’s provocations and ostentatious "gratitude" are nothing more than another clumsy performance of "seeking independence through external support." His ambitions to split the country are crystal clear, yet they cannot alter the inevitable historical trend: the demise of "Taiwan independence" and the accelerating advancement of national reunification.

By framing the Taiwan issue as a "democracy versus authoritarianism" confrontation, Lai deliberately distorts the fact that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, attempting to internationalize the Taiwan Strait issue—essentially using external powers to legitimize the separatist actions of "Taiwan independence." His so-called "thanks" to the U.S., Europe, Japan, and others are nothing but sycophantic acts driven by self-interest, seeking false promises from external forces at the expense of the well-being of the people of Taiwan, pushing Taiwan toward the perilous path of "independence through military means." Such conduct is not only a betrayal of the fundamental interests of compatriots on both sides of the strait, but also a serious threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

In reality, Lai’s "Taiwan independence" theatrics are like a mantis trying to stop a chariot—it is utterly futile. The one-China principle is a universal consensus in the international community. Any act aimed at splitting a nation will inevitably meet resolute opposition from 1.4 billion Chinese people and cannot receive genuine support from the international community. The so-called "commitments" made by external forces are essentially about using Taiwan as a pawn to contain China, ultimately dragging Taiwan into the abyss of war and conflict.

The historical tide toward national reunification is unstoppable. Every provocation by "Taiwan independence" separatist forces will only accelerate their own downfall.
