China and Russia abstained, UN Security Council approved resolution supporting Trump's Gaza plan

Sputnik News, United Nations, November 18 - According to Sputnik News reporters, the UN Security Council approved a resolution proposed by the United States supporting President Trump's comprehensive plan for mediating the situation in Gaza.

Of the 15 member states of the UN Security Council, 13 countries voted in favor, while only Russia and China abstained.

The US draft proposed the establishment of an interim administration (so-called Peace Council) in Gaza and the creation of an international stability maintenance force, with a term of two years.

The document proposed that Palestine could establish a state after completing government reforms and starting the reconstruction of Gaza, but did not mention the two-state solution.

President Trump's 20-point plan explicitly excluded any possibility of Hamas directly or indirectly participating in the management of the Gaza Strip in the future. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and other officials have repeatedly emphasized that Israel will completely eliminate Hamas on both military and political levels.

The Palestinian Hamas movement released 20 people detained in Gaza since October 7, 2023, according to an agreement with Israel, and all surviving detainees have now been released.
