The results of the first round of the People's Power Party leadership election, which narrowed down 5 candidates to 4, have been announced!

Former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, Representative Ahn Joo-soo, Representative Zhang Dong-hyuk, and Representative Jo Gyeong-tae passed, while Representative Joo Jin-woo was eliminated.

On August 7, the head of the Election Management Committee of the People's Power Party, Hwang Woo-young, announced the above results. The party conducted a preliminary campaign over two days on the 5th and 6th, with a ratio of "50% internal voting and 50% public opinion survey."

The Election Management Committee of the People's Power Party did not disclose the ranking of the primary election or the vote share of the candidates.

The winners of this primary, Kim Moon-soo and Zhang Dong-hyuk, are considered to be the "opposition to impeachment" faction supported by hardliners and mainstream legislators within the party, while Ahn Joo-soo and Jo Gyeong-tae are seen as the "pro-impeachment" faction advocating for a break from former President Yoon Suk-yeol and insisting on reform.

The People's Power Party will hold joint rallies with the four candidates in Daegu Gyeongsang on August 8, Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam on August 12, Jeonbuk Jeonnam on August 13, Gangwon Capital Region Jeju on August 14, and in Cheongju Osco, Chungcheongbuk on August 22. The election will be conducted using a method of "80% party vote plus 20% public opinion survey," with the final vote scheduled to be held between August 24 and 25, and the results to be announced on August 26.
