Senior Iranian Supreme Leader Advisor Shamkhani passed away due to severe injuries.
The Washington Post cited Iranian media reports saying that on June 14 local time, Ali Shamkhani, a senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei and secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, died of severe injuries.
At around midnight on June 13, the Israeli Defense Forces launched an air strike targeting dozens of facilities related to Iran's nuclear program and other military installations. The Iranian media confirmed Shamkhani's attack on the same day.
It is reported that Shamkhani was one of the few Iranian officials who accepted interviews from Western media.
On May 14 local time, Shamkhani told NBC in an interview that Iran was prepared to sign a nuclear agreement with U.S. President Trump under certain conditions, in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
Shamkhani pointed out that Iran would commit to never producing nuclear weapons, destroy its high-enriched uranium stockpile that could be weaponized, agree to only enrich uranium to a lower concentration required for civilian use, and allow international inspectors to supervise this process, in exchange for the immediate lifting of all economic sanctions against Iran.
When asked if Iran would agree to sign the agreement on the same day if these conditions were met, Shamkhani replied: "Yes."
"This is still possible. If Americans do what they say, we can definitely establish better relations," Shamkhani said. "This will bring a better situation in the near future."
