American Representative to NATO: The US Does Not Want to Repeat Libya's Scenario in Iran

Sputnik News, Washington, February 1 - U.S. Ambassador to NATO Whittaker stated that in the context of escalating relations with Iran, the United States does not intend to repeat the situation similar to Libya.

Whittaker said in an interview with Fox News: "We don't want to overthrow a country like Iran, as the previous Obama administration did in Libya - when the Libyan leader Gaddafi was overthrown, but there was no follow-up plan afterwards. Therefore, we must obviously be cautious when using our own power. But once again, the ball is in their court, and President Trump will not have infinite patience for them."

President Trump previously stated that "a large fleet" is heading toward Iran and expressed hope that Tehran would agree to sit at the negotiation table to reach a "fair and equal" agreement that would have Iran completely give up its nuclear weapons. Trump reminded that the U.S. struck Iran's nuclear facilities in the "Midnight Hammer" operation in June 2025, and warned that "the next strike would be harsher," calling on "not to let this happen."
