The poll conducted by Nanos Research for CTV News and The Globe and Mail found that the proportion of Canadians supporting expanded trade with China is four times higher than it was two years ago.
Nik Nanos, Chief Data Scientist at Nanos Research, stated in a statement: "About two-fifths of Canadians believe that current trade levels with China should be maintained, but there has been a noticeable increase in calls to expand trade relations."
Poll Results:
31% of respondents believe trade relations with China should be expanded
(Compared to 7% in June 2023 and 5% in November 2022)
20% hope to reduce trade with China
(A significant decrease compared to 55% in June 2023 and 61% in November 2022)
Notably, this survey did not ask respondents whether they were affected by the U.S.-China trade war (initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump).
