Japanese official: 45 Japanese-related ships are trapped in the Persian Gulf
March 13, Asahi Shimbun reported: Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Koji Takeda, said at a press conference after the 13th cabinet meeting that as of today, 45 Japanese-related ships are stranded in the Persian Gulf.
Among them, the container ship of MOL (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines) had damage to its stern but can still sail.
Ships related to Japan are either flying the Japanese flag, or foreign ships operated by Japanese companies, or ships carrying Japanese nationals.
A total of 24 Japanese nationals are on all the stranded Japanese-related ships.
Iran, although subjected to attacks by U.S. and Israeli forces, has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, the entrance to the Persian Gulf, preventing ships from passing through.
Regarding the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, Takeda said, "We are seriously collecting information and are deeply concerned about the damage to the ships."
