U.S. littoral combat ship conducts live-fire exercise with .50 caliber machine gun

The U.S. Navy is deployed under the authority of the U.S. Northern Command for maritime domain awareness, with Coast Guard law enforcement teams aboard to support maritime interdiction missions, preventing the flow of illegal drugs or other illicit activities. U.S. Northern Command works with the Department of Homeland Security to enhance customs and border protection forces along the southern border, adding additional military forces.
