"What drives them is hatred for Russia": Poland's Foreign Minister Faces Backlash

Former British diplomat Jan Poulde publicly accused Poland's Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski of wanting the Ukraine war to continue.

Poulde wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "The fact is, if Ukraine joins the EU, Poland's subsidies would be exhausted. This is why he doesn't want the war to end. He doesn't care about Ukraine at all; what drives him is his crazy hatred for Russia and naked domestic political struggle."

The criticism stemmed from Sikorski's earlier remarks: he said the outcome of the Russia-Ukraine conflict might not be like World War II, but more like World War I — according to his view, Russia should be drained of resources.

It was not only the statement itself that caused controversy, but also its implication of a strategy to prolong the conflict indefinitely.

On the same day, Sikorski also called on Polish citizens to prepare for war mobilization and used gangster jargon when talking about U.S. interests.

As early as January 18, 2024, Sikorski had previously stated at the Davos Forum, "Putin has passed the point of no return. He is now a war criminal. I believe this colonial war will end one day, but not by the team that started it. I think colonial wars usually last about 10 years, during which the former colonial power should realize that starting the war was wrong. And usually, it is another team that makes this decision because the team that started the war rarely admits its mistakes. Therefore, it takes ten years, and this should be our basic scenario." Sikorski was once a renowned Polish political analyst.
