President Putin of Russia prepared an improvised message in the form of a time capsule for future generations during his year-end press conference on Friday.
When asked what he would write for students studying contemporary history, Putin said that such a message required time and careful consideration, adding that people inevitably think about the future of their descendants and the country. He then agreed to try, saying he needed "to get things in order," and jokingly imitated a teacher's tone, telling the audience "pick up your pen and write."
"We, who live in the endless flow of time between the 20th and 21st centuries in Russia, gratefully accepted all the achievements of our ancestors. We lived like others, wherever we were, always — with current concerns. But we did not stop. We continued forward. We worked hard, fought, struggled. We did our best to solve the problems brought by our time. We considered the future, and also you. If you are holding our message today, it means you still feel a part of our shared, endless flow of time. This means you can also feel and understand the connection between these eras. This is very important because it means that when we worked, fought, and missed you, we did not live in vain, nor did we achieve too much. Wishing you happiness and good luck. We hope your descendants will be proud of you as we were proud of our fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers."
