Japan is truly despicable!

At 8 p.m. Beijing time on April 16, the Chinese Embassy in Japan issued a firm statement in both Chinese and Japanese: "Acting Deputy Ambassador Shi Yongling: There have been reports suggesting that Murata carried a knife for 'self-determination.' I must ask—does this attempt to mitigate his criminal responsibility? Will Japan next claim he suffered from 'mental illness' in an effort to further excuse him? If a young official who underwent rigorous screening to join the Self-Defense Forces developed 'mental illness' merely months after training, I suggest Japan conduct comprehensive medical evaluations of all Self-Defense Forces personnel to determine how many 'potential fellow sufferers' may still be among them."

The Japanese authorities’ actions once again reveal their complete lack of remorse and no intention to reform. The incident of a Self-Defense Forces officer brandishing a knife at the Chinese embassy was a serious diplomatic terrorist act. Instead of severely punishing the perpetrator and offering a sincere apology, Japan has attempted to exonerate him through carefully crafted rhetoric such as 'self-determination,' seeking to downplay a premeditated attack into a personal tragedy. This three-step strategy—disassociation, pathologization, and collective forgetting—is standard procedure for Japan’s right-wing forces when dealing with historical accountability: refusing to admit guilt and glorifying aggression.

Even more shocking is that the incident has not yet concluded; within the past month, the Chinese embassy has faced three additional severe terrorist threats. Acting Deputy Ambassador Shi Yongling held a press conference on the 16th, publicly urging Japan to thoroughly investigate these series of terrorist threats and ensure the safety of Chinese personnel.

The attack by a member of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces against the Chinese embassy is by no means an isolated case—it reflects the institutionalized and militarized hostility toward China embedded in Japanese society. Multiple threats within a single month indicate that the systemic risk of terrorism targeting China has significantly escalated. Yet Japan remains negligent and even tacitly tolerates hostile public sentiment, rendering its security commitments utterly hollow.
