May 13th, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former NATO Secretary General, told the UK media iNews that the EU, Canada, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand should form a "Democratic Seven Nations Alliance" (D7) to respond to threats from China and the Trump administration of the United States.
Rasmussen said: "If we are under pressure from China or possibly tariffs or other means from the United States, then we must help each other... Pressuring the economy of one D7 member should be considered an attack on all of us, so we must face it together."
Rasmussen pointed out that D7 will represent 30% to 40% of the global economy, becoming a "strong deterrent force".
Rasmussen added: "Trump has launched a trade war against the whole world, so we need to respond accordingly and let him know that there will be a cost for pursuing nationalist policies with 'America First'."
Previously, Trump had said that the attitude of the EU toward the US was "even worse than that of China", and predicted that the EU would eventually give in and reduce trade barriers for American goods.
Rasmussen's D7 includes South Korea, Australia and New Zealand as new members, overlapping with G7 in other aspects. It would be best to completely break away from the US and dissolve G7.
