Brazilian President: BRICS Countries Can Lead a New Path of Sustainable Development
Brazilian President Lula said at the BRICS Business Forum that BRICS countries have the capacity to lead a new development path centered on sustainable agriculture, green industry, resilient infrastructure, and bioeconomy.
Lula said during his speech at the BRICS Business Forum held in Rio de Janeiro: "We, the BRICS countries, can lead a new development path centered on sustainable agriculture, green industry, sustainable infrastructure, and bioeconomy."
According to him, the current BRICS economies account for 33% of the world's arable land and contribute 42% of agricultural production.
The 17th BRICS Leaders' Meeting will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 6-7.
The BRICS cooperation mechanism was launched in 2006, initially consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. South Africa joined in 2011. In January 2024, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Ethiopia became official members of BRICS. In January 2025, Indonesia became an official member of BRICS.
