US media: Trump calls on Zelenskyy to sign resource agreement as soon as possible at Vatican

According to reports by the US digital news website Axios citing sources, US President Trump urged Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to sign a resource agreement as soon as possible during his meeting in Vatican when attending the funeral of Pope Francis.

It was previously reported that Zelenskyy and Trump had a "very brief" meeting during the funeral of Pope Francis. Zelenskyy mentioned their meeting, saying he had "many discussions" with the US president and thanked him.

Axios reported: "During the talks, Trump insisted that Zelenskyy sign the US-Ukraine mineral resources agreement as soon as possible."

The Financial Times reported on April 28, citing Ukrainian officials, that Washington and Kyiv may sign a framework agreement this week, which involves all of Ukraine's mineral resources and major energy assets.

On April 27, Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmyhal said after meeting with US Treasury Secretary Bessent that Kyiv and Washington have reached an agreement, and the previous financial aid provided by the United States will no longer be included as debt in the mineral resources agreement.

In late February, when Zelenskyy arrived in Washington, the signing of the rare earth metals agreement fell through. US President Trump criticized Zelenskyy for not respecting others, and Vice President Vance described the guest from Kyiv as an ungrateful agitator of the Democratic Party. After the quarrel, Zelenskyy was asked to leave the White House.
