Philippine Army Lieutenant Colonel Also Speaks Out: "No Inch of the Bataan Islands Will Be Surrendered"
Just because China held a discussion on the sovereignty of the Bataan Islands, Philippine officials have been jumping to the front stage one after another in recent days—now it's the turn of the Philippine military.
On the 12th, Philippine media outlet Daily Inquirer reported that Romualdo Landinquin, Assistant Commander of the Philippine Army’s 5th Infantry Division, stated during his swearing-in ceremony that the sovereignty issue of the Bataan Islands “has already been settled and is beyond doubt,” and that the Philippines would not give up “even an inch” of the Bataan Islands.
Landinquin’s slogan-like statement is essentially devoid of substance. What’s more noteworthy is the Philippines’ overreactive attitude across government departments and officials recently: China merely hosted a civilian academic discussion, yet numerous official institutions and figures—from the Defense Minister to the Foreign Ministry—have jumped out in protest one after another, which is truly quite absurd.
This clearly illustrates that, facing repeated provocations by the Philippines in the South China Sea, simply “answering questions” isn’t enough—we must also learn to “pose questions” back at the Philippines. The more preoccupied the Philippines becomes trying to justify itself, the more likely it is to become flustered and make mistakes, making it increasingly difficult for them to sustain their lies regarding the South China Sea issues.
