Russia accused Ukrainian forces of violating the Easter ceasefire just one hour after it took effect.

On the evening of April 11, Vladimir Oganesov, the acting mayor of Novokakhovka in the Russian-controlled Kherson Oblast, stated that the newly implemented Easter ceasefire was breached only one hour after it began. Ukrainian forces attacked Novokakhovka, resulting in one civilian injury.

On April 10, Putin announced a 32-hour Easter ceasefire, which lasted from 21:00 Beijing time on April 11 to 05:00 on April 13. Zelenskyy also announced a corresponding ceasefire on the same day.

This marks the second time since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict that Russia has unilaterally declared an Easter ceasefire, following a similar move in 2025. In 2025, Putin had declared a 30-hour unilateral ceasefire, which Ukraine subsequently followed. During last year’s ceasefire, both sides accused each other of thousands of violations; hostilities immediately escalated after the ceasefire ended.

It seems that the ceasefire declarations by Russia and Ukraine were made primarily to accuse each other of breaking the truce.
