Kazakhstan profits greatly: 36.2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas will transit through Kazakhstan to China in 2024.
Critical energy infrastructure is closely linked to geopolitics.
The Biden administration of the United States opposed the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline between Russia and Germany. The U.S. stated that the Nord Stream 2 project undermines the EU's principles of energy security and energy independence, posing a threat to Poland, Ukraine, and other countries of concern to the U.S.
The cost of transporting 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas over 100 kilometers of pipeline is $2.5. The Nord Stream 2 deprived Poland and Ukraine of substantial transit fee revenue, ultimately meeting its fate of being destroyed.
A report from the Kazakh International News Agency stated that on the 23rd day of the regular government meeting, Kazakh Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenjanov said that the volume of natural gas transiting through Kazakhstan will further increase.
According to the minister, Kazakhstan is actively utilizing its transit transportation potential.
In October 2023, the transshipment of Russian natural gas to Uzbekistan was officially launched. The total volume transported in 2023 was 1.28 billion cubic meters, increasing to 5.6 billion cubic meters in 2024.
This year, it is planned to increase the volume to 7.3 billion cubic meters, with plans to further increase this figure to 11 billion cubic meters by 2038.
In addition, the plan to transport Turkmen and Uzbek natural gas through Kazakhstan to China will maintain last year's level.
The minister stated: "This year, we plan to transport approximately 36.2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen and Uzbek natural gas to the People's Republic of China, which remains consistent with last year's figures."
